Financial Literacy Action Network of Ottawa (FLANO)

EBO Centre is one of the founding members of the Financial Literacy Action Network of Ottawa (FLANO)/Réseau d’action en littératie financière d’Ottawa (RALFO) and it also chairs its proceedings.

FLANO is active in several projects. For instance, a study conducted in 2017 explored the prospect of exporting an Alberta model of financial literacy focused on savings and asset purchases, known as EmpowerU. It is still viewed as a potential opportunity, although no funder has come forward to this day.

FLANO was also involved in the Financial Inclusion Project, through funding by the Alterna Bank. The network conducted a local study on users of payday loans businesses. Focus groups were held in eight community organizations where clients use these services. A video is being produced as a follow-up to the study…

The network is now in a mature state of development. It is currently working on seeking recognition as a legal entity and its incorporation. FLANO, through its members, deals with diversified populations and various issues, whether it is aboriginal communities, newcomers, social housing, etc.

Keep on the lookout for this organization’s progress as EBO Centre pursues it close collaboration with FLANO!

ABLE Steering Committee (Asset Building and Learning Exchange)
