Each year, we recruit, train, and manage a team of volunteers who donate their time to assist over 1000 low-income residents of Ottawa with their taxes. Our volunteers generously donated 2,953 hours in 2015!

For individuals with simple tax returns, we offer:

  • Service to Residences  (February to April): Having your income tax return filed by one of our trained volunteers – offered at a large number of residences for seniors and individuals in assisted living in Ottawa.
  • Service for individuals (by appointment only / no drop-ins): Offered year-round to low-income individuals in Ottawa who need to submit tax returns for previous years (up to 10 years).
  • 2 appointments process:
    • 1st appointment: To fill intake form and collect all required documents.
    • 2nd appointment: To get documents signed and explain the results of the tax return(s).

Important notes:

  • The client must meet certain eligibility criteria in order to qualify for this free service (see infosheet):

Eligible:

  • To be a resident of Ottawa as of Dec. 31 of the fiscal year
  • Maximum gross yearly income:
    Individual $30,000
    Couple $40,000
    Add $2,500 per dependent child

Not eligible:

  • Deceased person  
  • Rental income
  • Bankruptcy cases
  • Self-employed

 Please note this process can take from 2 to 4 weeks during tax season.
